About the work
Raphael’s portrait of an unidentified cardinal, dated 1510–1511, remains on its original wood panel. Red silk, a white sleeve and a triangular composition make the sitter vividly present. Francesco Alidosi is a proposed identification, not a certainty. The digital bust is a contemporary interpretation of the painted person; reconstructed volume and unseen sides are not historical evidence.
