About the work
Two women in white summer dresses stroll along the wet sand of the Valencia beach, one shading herself with a long parasol, the other holding her hat against the sea breeze, her veil flying. Painted by Joaquin Sorolla in the summer of 1909, at the height of his international fame, and usually identified as his wife Clotilde and his eldest daughter Maria. It never left the family and hangs today in the painter's Madrid home, the Museo Sorolla.
