About the work
Everyday scenes of anger, pride and other sins surround Christ in a painted eye. Four corner medallions depict death, judgment, hell and heaven. This English story follows the viewer's attention from a tavern fight to the gaze at the centre, using a labelled contemporary 3D reading diagram. Prado attribution to Hieronymus Bosch is disputed; original function is unknown.
