About the work
A man in a white shirt throws his arms wide before a faceless firing squad, lit by a single square lantern on the ground, with the already dead heaped at his feet. Goya painted it in 1814 to commemorate the Madrid executions of 1808. In the Museo del Prado, Madrid.
