About the work
Murillo brings the Virgin and Child close to the spectator, their serious faces touching and their hands holding a rosary. Painted around 1650–1655, this devotional image invites prayer through a direct exchange of gazes, maternal touch and luminous colour against darkness. Museo Nacional del Prado, P000975.
