The Painta contest has its winners: Emanuel Padilla takes first prize with Pasamontañas, and edgarjjd receives a new second prize for applying augmented reality to workplace safety training.

I wanted to give both projects a place here on the blog, so you can explore the work, meet the creators and see two different directions that an AR idea can take.

First prize: Emanuel Padilla and Pasamontañas

Emanuel Padilla wins the first prize for Pasamontañas.

In his description of the work, Emanuel connects a mask dissolving into glitch with the fragility of things that disappear. Flowers suggest memory, while a building brings an urban presence into the composition. Open the artwork page to explore the piece and access its augmented reality experience.

Emanuel's prize includes:

  • €250 in cash.
  • A one-year Studio Pro grant.
  • 5,000 credits for Iris Pro.

A new second prize for edgarjjd

I decided to create an additional second prize for edgarjjd, recognising his use of augmented reality in occupational health and safety training, known in Spanish as prevención de riesgos laborales, or PRL.

His card project brings AR into a professional learning context. The contest entry, Círculo 4 Pluto, belongs to La Divina Protección Contra Caídas. You can discover this card and the rest of his published work through his Painta profile.

This second prize is a one-year Studio Pro grant. It was not part of the original prize announcement: I added it to recognise this application of AR and give Edgar more time to develop his ideas.

A year to keep creating

Both Studio Pro grants have already been added to the winners' accounts, extending the access they already had by a full year. Emanuel's 5,000 Iris Pro credits are also available in his account.

Thank you for taking part

Congratulations to Emanuel and Edgar, and thank you to everyone who participated. Every entry involves trying something, making decisions and sharing the result. That work helps this community grow.

We hope to see more of you in future editions, which we will announce on Painta and our social channels. In the meantime, explore the winning projects and keep experimenting: start with an artwork, a drawing or a card, and see what movement, sound or another dimension can add.
